Driving into the town of Ballater from Aberdeen look up from the road to the impressive peak of Lochnagar, have a stroll around the town and drop into the restored Victorian Railway Station with displays on the 100 year history of Royal use. Visit Ballater in August and take part in the Victoria Week celebrations.
Deeper into Royal Deeside visit the Highland village of Braemar. Breathe in the fresh air, gaze up at the surrounding hills and down into the river rapids from the beautiful old bridge in the centre of the town. Play an inspired game of golf at Braemar golf club - the highest 18 hole course in Britain. Take a walk through nearby nature reserves amongst the heather and spot wildlife on signposted trails before stopping for a cup of tea and a cake at Taste coffee shop.
