Escape to the Isle of Barra

Escape to the Isle of Barra

The Outer Hebrides stands majestically at the northwest edge of Europe, and is home to 150 mile-long chain of beaches. The most southerly of the inhabited islands in the Outer Hebrides is Barra, which is only five miles wide and eight miles long.

Barra, is noted for its natural beauty and is a petite paradise for visitors, boasting some of Scotland's most spectacular coastal scenery. Accessible by both ferry and plane, you can opt to arrive in style to this majestic island as the airport in Barra is one of the most unusual in the world - with flights landing on the beach at Cockle Strand in between tides.

You can make your trip to Barra unique by chartering your own private boat trip for a spot of wildlife spotting. You might be lucky enough to spot the porpoise, seals, otters or the many seabirds, which are often found round Barra's coast. Alternatively you can charter your boat to take you sea angling, or to visit one of neighbouring deserted islands.

If you're looking for a more adventurous way to explore the Island then why not try sea kayaking. Even if you've never been in a kayak before, this is an adventure everyone can enjoy. Discover Barra's hidden lagoons and bays whilst you paddle gently alongside or around this remote island.

Whether your Perfect Day involves wildlife spotting, sea kayaking or simply sightseeing, this island offers it all, from peace and tranquillity to adventure.
