Museums and Galleries

Glasgow is home to some of Europe's most celebrated museums and galleries, with an exciting round year programme of exhibitions. Spend a perfect day exploring Glasgow's cultural treasures, many of which are found next to beautiful parks and gardens.

Start with the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, the white faces that grin and gape never fail to bring a smile. Marvel at masterpieces by Dali, Van Gogh, Monet and Botticelli and discover a unique Glasgow Style Gallery featuring the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Take a stroll through the gardens next to the museum, a beautiful example of a traditional Victorian park.

Wander around the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park in the south side of Glasgow and discover a wealth of fascinating exhibits on show, from medieval art and tapestries to stained glass and furniture. Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance, Lady Burrell, gifted his collection to Glasgow in 1944, and this is considered one of the most impressive art collections owned by one single person.

The Gallery of Modern Art is an elegant neo classical building in the heart of Glasgow city centre. This is the second most visited contemporary art gallery outside of London, with a programme of exhibitions that is constantly evolving, which means you're sure to find something new and exciting each time you visit.

St Mungo Museum of Religious Life & Art is a unique museum exploring the importance of religion in people's lives across the world and across time. The gallery is illuminated with a wealth of colours by beautiful stained glass windows.

Whilst in the east side of the city you should visit the Glasgow Necropolis and see a Victorian memorial to every eminent Glaswegian of its day. One of Europe's most significant cemeteries, the Necropolis is adorned by ornate sculptures created by the likes of Alexander 'Greek' Thompson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
