Walk by the Falls of Clyde

Walk by the Falls of Clyde

Walking in Scotland is one of the best ways to enjoy the great outdoors and admire some spectacular views. Why not explore the Falls of Clyde, a delightful riverside walk which takes in the four waterfalls within the Falls of Clyde Nature Reserve.

Starting from New Lanark, this route takes you through the quieter areas of the reserve, which is all the better for spotting an array of wildlife, such as woodpeckers, roe deer and even otters. Look out for badger setts as you follow the woodland path. Highlights include wonderful views of the impressive 90-ft Corra Linn waterfall, which can be seen from the 18th century Corra Linn Viewing Pavilion.

Cross to the west bank of the River Clyde via a small footbridge to a viewpoint overlooking Bonnington Linn. From there continue along the west bank finally heading for the 15th century ruin of Corra Castle.

As you continue along the Clyde Walkway, listen for warblers and tits in the ancient broadleaved woodland along the way, as well as seasonal kingfishers and swooping dippers along the river edge.

After returning to New Lanark, take some time to explore the New Lanark World Heritage Site, a beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village.
